Using Famine as a Weapon of War |

Almost
everyone is now hungry Mothers in
Gaza are struggling to find clean water and baby formula
for their newborns. Families are selling their
possessions to buy sacks of flour. Some people are
eating animal feed to survive.

In the northern city of Beit Lahia, Mahmoud
Shalabi said his neighbors have brought cattle feed
made of corn or oat to a mill to grind it into
flour. It is barely edible, said Shalabi, 38, whose
children are 7 and 9, but is preferable to starvation. If
you find it now, he told us, you will be
able to have something to eat and feed your kids.
Famine
has become a central concern in the humanitarian
calamity in Gaza, with nearly all households regularly
skipping meals, according to the U.N. On a per capita
basis, Bob Kitchen of the International Rescue Committee
said, It is the most intense hunger crisis I have
ever seen. He added: Almost everyone is now
hungry.

In a practice now prohibited by
international law, killing innocent civilians, in 1945
the United States Army Air Forces began
"Operation
Starvation", a program of using naval mines
in all the waterways in and around Japan in an effort to
inhibit the transportation of food and essentials.
Initiated by Admiral Chester Nimitz, the Commander in
Chief, U.S. Pacific, the plan utilized the latest and
most modern heavy bombers in the American arsenal, the
Boeing B-29 Superfortress to drop the mines from the
air. |

Using starvation of the enemy population is
not new, while outlawed now by international law, the Nazis
did it during World War II in the war against Russia,
"Hunger
Plan" killed millions of Soviets. And, while
Americans might say that we'd never do that, we did it as
well during World War II in our attempt to end the Japanese
conflict.
War is Hell.

(This space is for you ...) Yes
war is hell. Hunger and starvation is a terrible thing but
..what
is the true story here? Has Hamas really stockpiled food and
medical supplies for their own use and kept it from others?
I would tend to believe it. Also, is there any truly innocent
civilians in Gaza? Gaza is a small place geographically and
I would think most everyone knows their neighbors and what
they are doing. How can you look at your neighbors and see
piles of rockets in their yard and a launcher on the roof of
their house not say anything for years, and not be complicit
in the thousands of rocket attacks on Israel? How can there
be a tunnel under your apartment house used for attacks and
for years you did not notice it? Virtually every block in
Gaza had rockets and launchers along with tunnels used for
attacking Israel. Are there any innocent civilians in Gaza?
I think only the very young, leaving most everyone else
complicit. Also, when the UN has to fire numerous aid
workers because they participated in the attack on October
7th then one must question the validity of much of this
story. Propaganda? - Clint in Arizona Not
interested at all in politics. Can you please take me off
you random musings email list? Still interested in hearing
about taildragger ferry trips though. - Logan in Illinois I
agree completely and am mad at Biden for favoring Israel
over the Palestinians. I've contacted maybe a dozen
politicians and other influencers plus had a letter in the
Star Tribune about the issue. Obama did not have the same
bias about Palestine as Biden, who is a Zionist. One of my
many messages ---come to think of it, I also sent a letter
to National Catholic Reporter---is that standing up for
Palestinians is the anti-Semitism.- Jeanette in Minnesota
