Ignoring
Clint Eastwood's advice in "Dirty Harry" that
opinions, like certain body parts, are best kept to
yourself.
Those
St. Jude TV Ads Tear Me Up |
Seeing
those poor little kids with cancer and how terrible it is
for the family makes me want to go online and sign up to
help.
But, every time I do that, the charity
starts flooding me with junk mail begging for more money.
I'm convinced most of the $25 bucks a month I'm sending them
isn't going to those people needing help, but to cover the
cost of the continual postal mailings and emails asking me
to give even more. That includes a "bread for the world"
promotion pushed by Rick Steves of PBS travel show fame, a
Christian shelter for homes men in downtown St.Paul, and the
lady sending food boxes to elderly Jewish people in war
zones.
I've resisted requests from "Wounded
Warriors" after doing some research and finding out the
CEO is pulling over half a million a year out in salary, and
the CEO of St. Jude has a salary over a million.
I
do give my $11 a month to "Tunnels and Towers",
the CEO is the man you see on television, and he takes no
salary.
Hazel helped every person she could, after
she died I heard from people about some of the things she'd
done
I remember that time when I was driving out
of a Walmart parking lot and there was a young girl holding
a baby in a blanket and a small cardboard sign. "Back
Up Back Up!!". She said. Yes, it was a real baby, maybe
a month old, and girl couldn't be over 20. Her boyfriend had
kicked her out, Hazel gave her all the money in her purse
and got the last twenty out of my wallet. She worried about
that girl for days.
Time for my evening glass of
blood-thinner. My cardiologist wants to put me on an
expensive pill, but I told him that a little brandy does the
same thing.
I think I have the only First Aid kit
in the RV park with a flask of brandy in it. For medicinal
purposes only, of course.
