Many U.S. corporations this year stopped supporting Pride events that celebrate LGBTQ+ culture and rights, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in budget shortfalls ahead of the summer festivities and raising questions about corporate America’s commitment to the cause. Those who worked with John Candy consistently spoke of how he never let celebrity go to his head. He'd give up his trailer if wardrobe needed space or help fund overtime for exhausted crews. His actions weren't for headlines, they were quiet affirmations of his values. To Candy, true success meant uplifting the people behind the scenes. Read the comments in the article from people who knew him. No need to send the captured illegals to El Salvado, the Miami-Dade Collier Training Facility is an abandoned airport facility right in the middle of the Everglades, and it presents an efficient, low-cost opportunity to build a temporary detention facility because you don't need to invest that much in the perimeter. If people get out, there's not much waiting for them other than alligators and pythons. The solstice that occurs on June 20th or 21st marks the official beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, when Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt (about 23.5 degrees) toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. (By longest ''day,'' we mean the longest period of sunlight hours.) On the day of the June solstice, the Northern Hemisphere receives sunlight at the most direct angle of the year.
The Trump administration formally revoked the Biden-Harris administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy for inspections of federal firearm licensees (FFLs). This ended a practice that was costing small business people their livelihoods over harmless clerical errors in the voluminous paperwork that accompanies regulated gun sales. The Vatican Bank scandal in 1982 was woven into the plot of Mario Puzzo's book and movie ''Godfather Part III''. Police ruled Calvi's death a suicide. But, in 2003, the courts ruled it was the Italian Mafia who were responsible for the death.

On the night of May 8, 1972, President Richard Nixon went on television. He wanted to communicate his dissatisfaction with the leaders of North Vietnam and their allies, especially the Soviet Union. In the speech, Nixon announced an operation that would hasten the end of the war that had been waged for 10 years. An operation to drop mines in Haiphong Harbor and other major North Vietnamese ports that were entryways for the military supplies, mainly from the Soviets, that supported the communist war effort.
A 57-year-old man has been arrested in the US state of Minnesota on suspicion of killing a Democratic state lawmaker and her husband. The arrest on Sunday night was the culmination of a huge two-day manhunt following the deaths of Melissa Hortman, a Minnesota Democrat, and her husband Mark. State Governor Tim Walz called it a ''politically motivated assassination''. Now, the Democratic Party is faced with the task of spinning the story of a Democrat killing a Democrat. Rioters in Los Angeles are fighting to keep rapists, murderers, gangbangers and other violent criminals loose on city streets, Homeland Security (DHS) confirms this week contradicting open border groups, media outlets and California Democrats who claim only hard-working, law-abiding immigrants were cruelly arrested sweeps that ignited pandemonium in the City of Angels. Federal agents and local police officers have been violently attacked, cars set on fire, businesses looted and roads blocked. FBI Director Kash Patel has turned over agency documents to Congress about a Chinese plot to create fake U.S. driver's licenses to facilitate fraudulent mail-in ballots. Patel also revealed a memo from former director Wray ordering the destruction of the report and all copies as it was being sent to FBI offices in Midwestern swing states just before the 2020 election. Tracing their origins to England as far back as the 1720 stock market crash known as the South Sea Bubble, political cartoons, sometimes instead called ''editorial cartoons,'' were initially sold as individual prints before becoming a fixture in newspapers and print magazines. By the middle of the 19th century, you could expect to find a political cartoon in just about any newspaper that you picked up, and by the 20th century, few newspapers could be considered complete without one.
Iran’s government has also long seen pet dogs as a sign of Western cultural influence. And much of the opposition to dogs in Iran stems from religious beliefs, with dogs considered to be “najes,” or impure, in Islam. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, had issued a fatwa, or religious order, explaining the logic: A dog’s saliva or hair would render anything it touched, like a person, clothing or a surface, impure. A person pretending to be a police officer assassinated a Democratic state legislator in Minnesota and killed the lawmaker's husband in an act of targeted political violence. The assailant also shot and severely injured another Democratic lawmaker and his wife, both shootings possibly because of votes by both legislators to cut benefits to illegal aliens. Father's Day did not become a national holiday until 1972. Why did it take so long to pass into law, unlike Mother's Day, which was quickly embraced? The idea of Father's Day being similar to Mother's Day, for fathers, it didn't have the same appeal. As one historian writes, men ''scoffed at the holiday's sentimental attempts to domesticate manliness with gift-giving, or they derided the proliferation of such holidays as a commercial gimmick to sell more products-often paid for by the father himself.'' One of our children, who knows about such things, baked brownies for my wife Hazel to help her with pain when she was fighting cancer in 2019. Here is the recipe.
The palm trees were still waving in front of Princeton's City Hall when Michele Leonhart pulled into Princeton, Minnesota. She was nervous but excited. This was her first official case as a special agent for the DEA, working out of its Minneapolis field office. She had been assigned to go up to Princeton to check out this Casey Ramirez character, the ''mysterious benefactor'' with a lot of money and, apparently, a lot of airplanes. TWA Flight 847 from Athens to Rome is hijacked by Shiite Hezbollah terrorists who demand to know the identity of those with Jewish-sounding names. The terrorists forced the plane to land in Beirut, Lebanon. Once on the ground, the hijackers called for passengers with Israeli passports, but there were none. They then focused their attention on the several U.S. Navy construction divers aboard the plane. After landing, the terrorists killed U.S. Navy diver Robert Stethem, and dumped his body on the runway.
At 6:30 p.m. the Army Birthday Parade will celebrate the Army’s history and will feature Army equipment, flyovers and 6,700 Soldiers in uniforms from the past and the present. The day will end with an enlistment and reenlistment ceremony, a parachute demonstration by the Golden Knights and a fireworks display. Pepcid (famotidine) uniquely blocks serotonin activity unlike other H2 blockers, helping interrupt chronic pain, inflammation and fatigue caused by elevated serotonin levels. Elevated serotonin impairs mitochondrial energy production and drives chronic inflammation, depression and pain. Pepcid is safer than recalled Zantac (ranitidine) and more potent than older H2 blockers, with fewer drug interactions and decades of proven safety.
In an age of digital inserts, screens within screens and other ways for sponsors to reach viewers, Goodyear’s technology is quaint. The blimps, which are slightly longer than a Boeing 747, hover about 1,000 feet off the ground and rarely move faster than 70 miles per hour. But their ability to capture a skyline, a stadium or the flight of a golf ball down a fairway has made them an indispensable part of broadcasts. As contradictory as it sounds, the universe is flat. In fact, all evidence indicates that our universe is as flat as can be, even as it could be infinitely big. We're even able to measure this flatness to a precision of less than one percent, which is pretty impressive. The bond between a father and daughter is transformative and unparalleled. It's one of the many ways to describe the love and strength of a father-daughter relationship. Father-daughter relations can become a cornerstone of a woman's emotional and psychological development, guiding her toward healthy relationships, resilience, and pursuing her dreams in life. Ever since baby carrots were ''invented'' in the 1980s, marketers have conned us into believing that they're the ultimate healthy snack, a convenient way to enjoy veggies on the go. Sure, they may be snackable and convenient, but they’re definitely not what you think they are. Here’s why you should think twice about snagging a bag.
''The reality is, we see peaceful protests launching in Los Angeles,'' the New Jersey senator said, ''A lot of these peaceful protests are being generated because the president of the United States is sowing chaos and confusion by arresting people who are showing up for their immigration hearings.'' The City of Angels was plunged into chaos over the weekend after hundreds of rioters violently clashed with federal immigration authorities, attempting to impede their ability to carry out deportations. Pharmaceutical companies have embedded themselves into the media, medical schools, nonprofits, and federal agencies. Their far-reaching influence has allowed them to shape public health narratives. Welcome to the only museum with a bar, where history hangs its hat. It’s the place where it all started and where it all still happens, and where the good times are legendary. Accessible primarily by canoe, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northeast Minnesota is one of America's most beautiful and remote places. Its vast wilderness extends 150 miles along the U.S.-Canada border, covering approximately 1,098,000 acres with over 1,100 lakes and 1,500 miles of canoe routes, attracting more than 150,000 visitors annually. To truly understand this incredible destination, you have to come experience it for yourself.
Kmart's closing is indicative of a larger pattern across all retail chain stores in general. Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September and sold to Nexus Capital Management. Joann, the popular fabric store, similarly filed for bankruptcy in March, 2024. Hardware chain True Value joined them in November. Pharmacy chains are also struggling to compete in an online world. Walgreens is planning to close 1,200 stores. CVS just wrapped up closing 900 locations over the last three years. A woman in Texas has died after contracting a rare infection caused by a brain-eating amoeba, which she encountered while using tap water to rinse her sinuses at a campground. ''If water containing the ameba goes up the nose and to the brain, it can cause an infection called primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM),'' the CDC explained. ''Typically, fewer than 10 people a year in the United States get PAM. Nearly everyone who gets PAM dies from it''. Air travel brings together disparate people in stressful times who act as though they're in private. Then add people may be afraid to fly, or are traveling for emotionally stressful reasons, and you could really have a ''Ship of Fools''situation on your hands. It's that time of year again, when the rainbows are flying everywhere you look, and super gay things are happening in more places than just Dodgers games. But what can you do to show your support? The Babylon Bee has come up with the following list to help you find really, really gay things you can do as part of Pride Month.
Bill Millin, the personal piper to Commander Lord Lovat, of 4 Commando, piped his men onto Sword beach against military regulations which banned musicians from travelling to the front. Millin’s role in the D-Day landings is well documented, and the Germans chose not to shoot the piper simply because they thought he had gone mad. Starting in May 2025, most adults catching a flight in the U.S. are required to present either a passport or an upgraded identification card that meets federal REAL ID standards. A REAL ID is a driver's license or other state-issued ID that meets security requirements mandated in a 2005 law passed in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The TSA says '' We love hotdogs & rotisserie chickens as much as the next person, but a Costco card does not count as a REAL ID because it does not.'' The claim is false and originally stems from a Feb. 23,2025 post shared by ''America's Last Line of Defense,'' which is a satirical Facebook page. The Facebook page describes itself as ''the flagship of the ALLOD network of trollery and propaganda for cash'' before reiterating that ''nothing on this page is real.'' A woman in Texas has died after contracting a rare infection caused by a brain-eating amoeba, which she encountered while using tap water to rinse her sinuses at a campground.
Former President Joe Biden only signed one pardon by hand, for his son, and it was his most controversial one. The Justice Department is reviewing the pardons by Biden amid new concerns about his use of an autopen to automatically sign documents and concerns about his state of mind and mental acuity in his final months in office. Biden used his final day as commander in chief to grant clemency and pardon to more than 1,500 people, the largest single-day act of clemency by a U.S. president. As Chief Meteorologist at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force, it was the job of chief meteorological adviser, Group Captain James Stagg to inform General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, of weather conditions that would make or break an invasion on the north France coast. LGBT activists are up in arms because Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the Navy to rename a ship that had honored pederast and gay rights ''icon'' Harvey Milk. A new name has not been revealed, but will be made public soon. The USNS Harvey Milk was christened in 2016 during the presidency of Barack Obama, who also posthumously awarded Milk the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Milk was a diving instructor in the Navy until his ''less than dishonorable discharge'' in 1955. Flying is getting more and more complicated every year, with new restrictions coming up every time we pack our bags, from the liquid limit to the carryon size that seems to get smaller every day to the electronics regulation to the myriad of things you can no longer carry unless it is checked in and now, what it seems like an uno reverse, the things you can only have if they are in your carryon luggage. It can make catching a flight an ordeal.
Corporate America has fallen out of love with Pride month - and it's because of Donald Trump. Businesses that used to smother their merchandise in rainbow flags for the month of June have dramatically scaled back this year, many wary of provoking an investigation by the Trump administration. Meanwhile, Pride events across the US are facing budget shortfalls as corporate sponsors duck out. National Doughnut Day is a fun holiday celebrated on the first Friday in June each year. It honors the brave women known as ''Doughnut Lassies'' from the Salvation Army who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. This sweet tradition started in 1938 in Chicago and has grown into a beloved celebration across the United States. Timeline of the D-Day landings of 6th June 1944 hour by hour as events unfolded on the day. D-Day, the first day of the Normandy landings that laid the foundations for the Allied defeat of Germany. The invasion - codenamed Operation Overlord - saw of tens of thousands of troops from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada landing on five stretches of the coastline of Normandy. Planning for D-Day began more than a year in advance, and the Allies carried out substantial military deception to confuse the Germans as to when and where the invasion would take place.
Former President Bill Clinton insisted in an interview that former President Joe Biden was in good shape despite a new book that chronicled Biden's cognitive and physical decline and described his inner circle limiting work hours and the access of aides. Gen. Dwight Eisenhower originally planned for D-Day to happen on June 5. The 'unpredictable' English weather intervened. But Eisenhower still wrote a famous letter that day, a letter never sent. The message? In the event the invasion failed, Eisenhower prepared for the event by writing an apology, taking full responsibility. Americans love fish sandwiches, and these days there are plenty more on offer than just the (iconic) McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish. Customers craving something aside from burgers or chicken sandwiches are spoiled for choice with seafood options, but not all sandwiches are made with good quality, pure ingredients. Luckily many are, and the list is growing thanks to savvy consumers being much more demanding about what they expect. Here are seven chain restaurant fish sandwiches made with real ingredients. Narcan is used in people of all ages if opioid overdose, such as from fentanyl, oxycodone, or heroin happens or has possibly happened. Narcan treats the overdose by blocking certain receptors in your body that opioids bind to. I carry Narcan in my car and motorhome, you just never know when you might be called on to save the life of a friend, family member or a complete stranger.
Left-wing conspiracy buffs have long believed that Watergate's missing center -- the Big Secret -- was the Kennedy assassination. The time was 1020, 4 June 1942. Just five minutes later, three of those carriers, the Akagi, Kaga, and Soryu were wrecked beyond redemption, set ablaze by bombs exploding in their hangars, oily black smoke boiling up through the gaping holes rent in their flight decks. The bloody remains of sailors were scattered about in hangars below, a grim down payment on the 3,057 Japanese who would ultimately die this day. Though the final outcome had yet to be revealed to either side, the United States had just won 5-6 June 1944: 821 Douglas C-47 Skytrain twin-engine transports, and 516 Waco CG-4A and Airspeed AS.51 Horsa gliders of the IXth Troop Carrier Command, airlifted 13,348 paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, United States Army, and another 7,900 men of the British Army 6th Airborne Division and the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. Their mission was to drop the paratroopers behind the invasion beaches of Normandy during the hours before the amphibious assault began on D-Day. Joint pain can occur anywhere in the body. And you can have joint pain for a variety of different reasons ranging from osteoarthritis and gout to common strains and sprains. No matter the cause, joint pain can be nagging and disruptive to your normal life and activity. That leaves many people looking for quick joint pain relief.
We often hear that Napoleon Bonaparte shot the nose off the Sphinx – that enigmatic, ancient sculpture at Giza in Egypt. Some say, including the Nation of Islam controversial and divisive leader Louis Farrakhan, that he did it to conceal the African roots of the pharaohs. There’s only one problem. It’s simply not true. Paintings and drawings of the Sphinx done long before Napoleon's visit to Egypt show a missing nose. The article missed Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, where I was staying in 2019 and witnessed a drug bust right in the campground. A common event there, according to the Ranger. The Cocoanut Grove fire was a nightclub fire which took place in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 28, 1942, and resulted in the deaths of 492 people. It is the deadliest nightclub fire in history and the third-deadliest single-building fire. The Cocoanut Grove was one of Boston's most popular nightspots, attracting many celebrity visitors. The army General George Patton fielded for the 1944 Normandy D-Day Invasion was unlike any other. It was a complete and unabashed fake.
A stroke is a serious medical condition that is caused by an obstruction in the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the brain, or by a ruptures or leakage from arteries in the brain. When the brain is deprived of oxygen, even for a few moments, it can cause brain cells to die quickly. When this happens, the victim may experience symptoms in the areas of the body that are controlled by the damaged or destroyed brain cells. Proper emergency medical attention is vital following a stroke, and every second counts. While the Great Sphinx of Giza has its mysteries, what it originally looked like and why it was made, it is believed that the 66-foot-tall (20-meter-tall) statue was carved out of a single piece of limestone. The original theory that wind had shaped a yardang into the Sphinx's formation was first featured in a 1981 Smithsonian Magazine article by El-Baz titled ''Desert Builders Knew a Good Thing When They Saw It.'' A simplified explanation of the afterlife. As a young man, Robert Taylor made money by training a homing pigeon to fly to his home and then selling it to pet stores again and again. Before launching SoftSoap, Taylor found there were only a few companies that made the kind of pumps needed, and only one produced enough pumps on the scale envisioned. So, Taylor's idea was quite simple, buy every pump the company had available for the foreseeable future. How many would he need to buy? It turns out, about 100 million pumps and bottles.
There’s something inherently nostalgic about popping a DVD into a player. Remember when movie night was an exciting, planned event complete with a physical collection you could browse through? That’s what playing DVDs can help you feel again. This nostalgia is a warm, fuzzy feeling of tangible connection in our increasingly digital lives. Sir Walter Raleigh, English landed gentleman, writer, soldier and explorer was one of Queen Elizabeth I's favorites. He had even famously cast his expensive cloak on to a muddy puddle once to protect her royal feet. On May 31, 1592, the Queen discovered Raleigh had secretly married one of her ladies-in-waiting, Elizabeth had not been consulted and was furious. The pair was arrested and imprisoned in the Tower of London. And so began Raleigh's descent into disfavor, disgrace and, ultimately, death. On Tuesday 6 June, 1944, nearly 160,000 allied soldiers landed along a 50-mile stretch of coast in Normandy. D-Day marked the beginning of the end for the Nazi Occupation of western Europe. But at the time, German generals in charge of defending the beaches didn’t believe the full scale Allied invasion of France had even begun. Thanks to a series of deceptions, the bulk of Germany’s defensive forces were 150 miles away when the Normandy landings were taking place. Some of the biggest U.S. airlines are quietly charging solo travelers more than passengers who book as a pair, according to recent travel industry findings. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have added new fare rules that require passengers to book at least two tickets to access the cheapest fares. That means solo travelers could end up paying as much as 70 percent. This pricing tactic appears designed to target business travelers, who often book last-minute and travel alone.
America depends on ocean shipping. About 80 percent of its international trade by weight traverses the seas. The U.S. needs ships to deliver nearly 90 percent of its armed forces’ supplies and equipment, including fuel, ammunition, and food. Commercial shipyard capacity is essential for surge construction of warships and sealift-support ships that transport equipment and troops in times of national emergency. The forgotten tragedy of the Cap Arcona, the last major indignity of the Holocaust and one of history’s worst maritime disasters. According to Father Joseph Jenkins, pastor of a church in Mitchellville, Maryland, Christians did a good job of killing each other, with plenty of blame to go around. Take for example, King Henry VIII of England, who took upon himself the role of grand royal inquisitor, took the lives of some 72,000 Catholics, many who were cruelly tortured. The ''Driftless Area'' of the Upper Midwest derives its name from the fact that the Glaciers of 12,000 years ago surrounded but did not pass over this land.
Captain Benjamin ''Hawkeye'' Pierce of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital unit is the character that made Alda’s name in M*A*S*H, the TV war comedy-drama set in 1950s South Korea. Hawkeye is a hard-drinking, skirt-chasing, war-hating, wisecracking surgeon, brimming with principle and soul. As for Alda himself, he has the principle and soul, but less of the boozy priapism. During the pandemic, the author made it his mission to watch every single James Bond movie in order. But during that quest, he found a new appreciation for the franchise. It's sustained 25 movies so far, with more to come. The character has been through many actors, all putting their own spin on it. Truly, there's something to love about all of these films, so putting them in order was pretty hard for him to do. Dive into every James Bond film, let's get shaken, not stirred. As questions swirl around former President Joe Biden’s capability to serve in office during his only term, intensified by his recent prostate cancer diagnosis, those around Biden have been more deeply scrutinized. Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s new book, Original Sin, details how Biden’s aides considered former first lady Jill Biden one of the most influential first ladies in history; as a result, her top aide, Anthony Bernal, was also considered highly influential in the administration. As of March, 2025, there are 7,135 Starlink satellites in orbit, of which 7,105 are working. The size and scale of the Starlink project concerns astronomers, who fear that the bright, orbiting objects will interfere with observations of the universe, as well as spaceflight safety experts who now see Starlink as the number one source of collision hazard in Earth's orbit.
President Trump told the West Point cadets, ''As you receive your commissions as Second Lieutenants, each of you continues down the same hallowed path walked by the titans and legends of U.S. Military lore. Giants like Ulysses S. Grant, John 'Black Jack' Pershing, Dwight David Eisenhower, the one and only Douglas MacArthur, old blood and guts, George Patton, and Stormin' Norman Schwarzkopf, all great.'' Another scandal from the era of Joe Biden in the White House has been uncovered in a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, and Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., was left stunned. That was by the fact that the Biden administration handed out a ''staggering'' $93 billion in loans and commitments during the final 76 days of Biden's tenure, apparently without even reviewing a business operating plan or a project review. Kidnappings and other attempted extortions to gain access to the victims crypto wallet are known in the industry as ''wrench attacks''. Criminals tend to move to ''low risk, high reward'' crimes, and just as they moved from armed robberies into drug smuggling in the 1980s and 1990s, now they are likely to gravitate towards cryptocurrency crimes. After gaining access to a cryptocurrency wallet a criminal can transfer the entire contents to their own digital wallet, leaving few clues about their identity.
Battered Husbands of the World, Unite!
Joe Biden has found a new purpose in his post-presidential years, having formed a new support group for battered and abused world leaders with French President Emmanuel Macron. ''I am a battered world leader and I want to help other world leaders know that that's okay,'' Macron said. ''It's not your fault.'' The idea to put together a formal support group was born out of a phone conversation after Macron's humiliating beat-down by his wife Brigitte. Macron reportedly reached out to Biden, another abused politician, to gauge his interest. ''Hot dog, Macron! That's the most swell idea I've heard since that time that clean young negro boy Obama told me to run for President,'' Biden reportedly said during the phone call. ''We're going to help people. No, I'm serious. Not a joke, man. Think about it. My flimgizzdle has a chicken on the gribble, Jack.''

European wars in the past century, not to mention the Korean and Vietnamese debacles, cost the lives of 535,545 American men and boys and relatives: 116,708 were killed in World War I and 416,837 in World War II. This is a small loss in comparison to the huge losses of France, Germany, Russia and other European belligerents, who lost tens of millions, but gigantic when you think of those figures not as numbers but as individual humans needlessly snuffed out. Iraq War veteran Edmundo Eugenio Martinez Jr. said the day has lost so much meaning that many Americans ''conflate and mix up Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Armed Forces Day, July Fourth.'' Social media posts pay tribute to ''everyone'' who has served, when Memorial Day is about those who died. For him, it’s about honoring 17 U.S. service members he knew who lost their lives. ‘Alexa, what do you know about us?’ What the author discovered when he asked Amazon to tell me everything my family’s smart speaker had heard. The white sands and spacious lobby of the British Colonial Hotel in Nassau have twice provided a sumptuous backdrop for James Bond. Now the iconic hotel is at the center of a real-life espionage battle as China buys up property and land in the Bahamas, barely 50 miles from the Florida coastline.
Bringing a carry-on has long been a staple of modern air travel, but that could soon change. In 2025, American Airlines is making a major update to its baggage policy, one that could significantly alter what passengers are allowed to bring on board. Rather than honoring the military men and women who gave their lives defending America, Hillary Clinton is calling on her supporters to bash President Donald Trump when they get together with friends and neighbors at Memorial Day gatherings. For hundreds of years, American Indians quarried the beds of red-colored claystone at what is now the Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota. Watch the annual Memorial Day Concert on your local PBS station on May 25, 2025 at 8PM Eastern, 7PM Central time.
A book the CNN host co-wrote has received positive reviews and appears to be a sales hit. But it has also generated intense scrutiny of Jake Tapper and his work. The ''City of Cleveland III'' was one of the finest passenger liners to ever sail the Great Lakes, as well as one of the more unfortunate. On June 26, 1950, the vessel collided with the Norwegian freighter ''Ravnefjell'' in fog off Harbor Beach, Michigan in Lake Huron. The C-III was carrying 89 passengers on a cruise headed for Detroit to watch the Tigers take on the New York Yankees at Briggs Stadium. Four people were killed when the freighter crashed into C-III's port side cabins. Those targets, called ''roundels'', were more of a signifier to help cut down on friendly fire than anything else. In the confusion of a dog-fight, you didn't want to be shot down by someone on your side in the battle. Other forms of aviation art carried a much deeper, more personal meaning to those in the cockpit, ''nose art''. It was supposed to be the greatest British celebration ever held on foreign soil but turned into the greatest tragedy to strike California. On May 24, 1913, the first ''Empire Day'' in Southern California was celebrated. Twenty thousand British and former British subjects gathered in Long Beach that day for a festive celebration which was to include a parade, athletic competitions, games, music and speeches at the Municipal Auditorium. It was just at the close of the parade when disaster struck.
''Joe Biden was not for Open Borders, he never talked about Open Borders, where criminals of all kinds, shapes, and sizes, can flow into our Country at will,It wasn't his idea to Open the Border, and almost destroy our Country, and cost us Hundreds of Billions of Dollars to get criminals out of our Country, and go through the process we are going through now. It was the people that knew he was cognitively impaired, and that took over the Autopen. They stole the Presidency of the United States.'' No, she was sitting in the back row of first class, she didn't pre-order a meal, and they simply ran out. She knew all of that but still chose to haul out the race card. From Tulsi Gabbard: ''Federal air marshal whistleblowers came forward with very disturbing information. They revealed that I had been added to a secret terror watchlist run by the TSA called 'Quiet Skies'. I learned that three air marshals were assigned to watch me every time I traveled in the airport and on the flight. TSA deployed explosive canine detection teams and an explosive specialist. What were they looking for? What kind of threat did they think I posed?'' Nowhere does the bond with the lacrosse stick run deeper than in the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. Located mostly in central New York and Ontario, its peoples, the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk and Tuscarora Nations, formerly known collectively as the Iroquois, have been playing lacrosse for nearly 1,000 years.
Donald Trump's order to allow white South Afrikaners into the United States followed a new law passed in South Africa that allowed the government to seize private land for public use without compensation. Trump said the law would target South Africa's white minority, the Afrikaners. The Black ruling class in South Africa feels ''they got away before we had a chance to get our revenge and punish them''. Tax filings reveal Joe Biden's charity, the Biden Cancer Initiative, spent more than $3 million on salaries and zero on actual cancer research. The majority of the millions of dollars raised went to payroll rather than cancer research. A New York man who attempted to have a romantic rival killed and his body fed to pigs pleaded guilty in federal court to the deranged plot. An informant told agents a sickening plan that involved a love triangle, a nun, and a "good bottle of bourbon", and the body would be disposed of at a hog farm in Pennsylvania. People tend to think that they can change more than is realistic to expect. A study in which obese women participated in a 48-week weight loss program, before treatment, many of these women defined an ''acceptable weight'' as a 55-pound loss and a ''disappointed weight'' as a 37-pound loss. However, they ended up losing, on average, 35 pounds; 47% of the subjects did not even meet their 'disappointed weight.'' In this study, a significant change was defined by many of the women as a failure.
Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. His office stated that while the cancer is serious, it appears to be hormone-sensitive, which may allow for effective management of the condition. Richard Farnsworth, who basked in glory in 2012 as the oldest man ever nominated for an Academy Award, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound later that year at his ranch in Lincoln, New Mexico. He was 80. Why? Terribly painful bone cancer, he just couldn’t go on with it. Farnsworth was one of my favorite actors on the big screen, he made it look so easy, some thought he wasn’t a real actor, but maybe a nice old guy they just hired to fill the part. I miss him. President Donald Trump said only stupid people would refuse a $400 million gift. He said it was like a favor on a golf course. A player gives you a putt and you accept it with a thank you, Trump said. Maybe that's why Trump wins so many club championships and why Vladimir Putin miraculously scores so many goals in a Russian celebrity hockey game. That creep who runs North Korea said his father shot 18 in a round of golf. Pick that one up, boss, it's good. Pilot Mike Kinsey described what it's like to scoop water from the surface of a lake in 10 seconds. ''The important thing is not to let the nose of the plane dip as it skims the water's surface''. Aircraft don't put out forest fires, but they can cool them enough so that firefighters on the ground can finish the job. In addition to fixed-wing aircraft, several helicopters have been deployed, including large Type III Chinook choppers that can suck up 23,000 gallons of water from a lake in 31 seconds.
Although Albert's Swarm, as it came to be known, is one of the greatest natural disasters to ever befall the United States, time has reduced it to barely a footnote in American history. Yet eyewitness accounts tell a freakish scene, of locusts filling the air for miles and being two to three inches deep on the ground. Such was their number, the sound of their eating was actually audible. And then, mysteriously, the entire species died out by the early 1900s. Have you ever wondered how you would look if you were a yellow character like the ones you see on TV? A school board member named Andrew Kehoe, upset over property taxes, killed his wife, all his farm animals, chopped down all his trees, then drove to town and wired the school with dynamite and set it off on the morning of May 18, 1927. Kehoe’s actions killed 45 people, 38 of whom were children.
At 8:32 AM, May 18, 1980, for the first time in nearly a century, Mount St. Helens erupted.About this photo
We're all aware of the psychological pain of a broken heart , countless books, songs, and movies have been written and made on the topic, but there's also scientific evidence that a broken heart can be fatal too. The technical term is takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC), a weakening of the heart brought on by physical or emotional stress. Before you roll into your next gas stop, know this: Many gas stations, especially in heavy tourist areas, legally tack on a hefty $1 per gallon surcharge for credit card transactions. This practice is driving up costs for drivers already grappling with slim fuel budgets. A solution? Use cash or debit cards: Debit transactions often avoid surcharges, and paying cash locks in the lower advertised price. First dates are full of suspense. That’s what makes them so exciting and so miserable at the same time, that your next couple hours could exist literally anywhere on the spectrum of human enjoyment. You might feel immediately that you’ve met your better half, the person who completes you and you’ll spend the rest of your life with. On the flip side, you might still meet the person you’ll spend the rest of your life with — but only because you’ll be strung up in a refrigerated meat locker by daybreak. From the article: ''While Biden had some genuine domestic achievements, particularly in his first two years, his larger presidency left a blighted record. Democrats won’t be able to win back the public unless they start talking frankly about what went wrong—and how party elites were implicated in the disaster. And until those elites are replaced.''
Ben Cohen, a founder of the famously progressive Ben & Jerry's ice cream brand, was arrested Wednesday during a Senate hearing at which Health and Human Services and had a meltdown in front of Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who was testifying. Cohen said he was motivated by humanitarian concerns for residents of Gaza, which remains at war with Israel. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy caused a splash when he requested a replica of a basement-bound painting of Jesus walking on water to be hung behind his desk in his federal office. The move comes about a month after Duffy called for the massive, 81-year-old ''Christ on the Water'' painting to, once again, be prominently displayed in the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, after it was sidelined during former President Joe Biden's administration. A Senate report concluded that President Richard M. Nixon and his senior advisers bear some, make that most, of the blame for the scores of Americans held captive in Southeast Asia but never accounted for at the end of the Vietnam War. Before poor health stopped them, Danny and Sherry traveled the country with their travel trailer, stopping to spend time in towns most of us drive right on by. Their wonderful travel website is no more, but was saved for us to enjoy by ''The Wayback Machine''. I especially like the section on Minnesota towns they visited, including our family hometown Pipestone.
In examining how the state statute uses the term ''lewdly'', the high court found the state's indecent exposure law refers to conduct of a sexual nature, and breasts are not inherently sexual. Al Bundy might have some input. How long did the Minnesota Supreme Court research this opinion?
''CBS Sunday Morning'' correspondent Lee Cowan remembers some of the newsworthy men and women who passed away this year – musicians and storytellers who surpassed the ordinary, athletes who defied expectations, and activists who defied injustice, all touching us with their creativity and humanity. JACKSON TOWNSHIP, OH – A federal investigation is underway following the fatal crash of an experimental aircraft in rural Ashland County on Sunday, May 5. The pilot, 72-year-old Gary Wolfelt of West Lafayette, Indiana, was the sole occupant of the single-engine plane and was pronounced dead at the scene. ''Hello. I am Gary. I am completely dead now. I am surprised that it took this long to happen. I had several close calls throughout my lifetime. I guess that I was just lucky that something didn't get me long before now. I had a long series of events and mishaps that looking back should have killed me long ago.''
''Any religious group should support the plight of Afrikaners, who have been terrorized, brutalized and persecuted by the South African government,'' a spokesperson said. ''The Afrikaners have faced unspeakable horrors and are no less deserving of refugee resettlement than the hundreds of thousands of others who were allowed into the United States during the past administration. President Trump has made it clear: refugee resettlement should be about need, not politics.'' The country's white minority, descendants of British colonists, and Afrikaners from the Netherlands and other European countries, once dominated South Africa, confining the country's majority-Black population in slums. Three decades after that system's defeat, the plight of white South Africans has become a cause célèbre among white-nationalist groups. Donald Trump says they are victims of racial discrimination and genocide, claims that South Africa's government calls completely false.
Before even embarking on the money-hemorrhaging adventure, the dad reportedly shelled out $30 for all-day parking at the attraction, which is located 20 minutes southwest of Orlando by car. The total cost of tickets for the quintet, including a child under 10, clocked in at an eye-popping $974 — approximately the cost of a round-trip flight from New York to Rome. Two Democratic candidates in competitive races—Rep. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia—have co-sponsored legislation that would permit biological males to compete in women’s sports, sparking criticism from conservative circles. The bill, known as the ''Equality in Athletics Act,'' aims to amend Title IX to include gender identity, effectively allowing transgender athletes to participate in sports aligning with their gender identity. The Nazca Lines are a collection of giant geoglyphs, designs or motifs etched into the ground, located in the Peruvian coastal plain about 250 miles south of Lima, Peru. Created by the ancient Nazca, and depicting various plants, animals, and shapes, the 2,000-year-old Nazca Lines can only be fully appreciated when viewed from the air given their massive size. Despite being studied for over 80 years, the geoglyphs are still a mystery to researchers. The Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming houses five world-class museums, all under one roof. Dedicated to the American West, its history, art, Native American heritage, the natural science of Yellowstone, and the development of the firearm are on display. Find your true West at the Center of the West.
Pasta e fagioli is, like many Italian meals, anchored by a core set of ingredients that have been modified over time and by various professional and amateur cooks. The foundation here features just three simple ingredients: a tomato base, white beans (usually cannellini), and what you might consider the best small-sized pasta shapes, like elbow macaroni or ditalini. Variations on this basic list can include broth or water, onion, parmesan cheese, and possibly a protein like sausage.

This ''Touron'' (a word coined by National Park Rangers to combine ''tourist'' with ''moron'') didn't just pick a regular bear to feed, he chose a grizzly. The latin name for this bear is extremely appropriate. The funeral is next week. United States Customs and Border Protection plans to log every person leaving the country by vehicle by taking photos at border crossings of every passenger and matching their faces to their passports, visas, or travel documents. The escalated documentation of travelers could be used to track how many people are self-deporting, or leave the US voluntarily, which the Trump administration is fervently encouraging to people in the country illegally.
Minnesota governor Tim Walz pitched once again for his wish for a lower sales tax rate, accompanied by an expansion of the sales tax to include financial planning and wealth management services. ''We're talking about lowering the sales tax for 80% of Minnesotans as we see it''. He offered examples of what he sees as inconsistencies in Minnesota law, like sales tax charged if you have someone trim your trees, but not if you have someone manage your money, or prepare your last will. It can be confusing, frustrating, and insecurity-provoking when your friends don't treat the relationship the way you expect them to. One way they can do that is when they never, or hardly ever, initiate contact to chat or catch up. This article will focus on friends who were never in the habit of getting in touch, not ones who used to contact you, but have recently stopped or slowed way down. When New York Attorney General Leticia James secured a $355 million judgment against Donald Trump for allegedly misleading financial statements, she called it a victory for ''transparency and accountability.'' However, looking into her own financial discrepancies reveals more than a decade of issues, from hidden mortgages to inconsistent property valuations and unreported rental income, these discrepancies raise questions about the state's top legal officer's own adherence to the standards she enforces. Even people who have studied the escape for years will never know whether Popular Mechanics gave Morris the idea to attempt it, or simply provided a method. The magazine certainly contributed to the likelihood of success. Even the FBI thinks so. Screenwriter Richard Tuggle noticed references to this publication while researching the screenplay for the Clint Eastwood movie. ''I think it's safe to say that if those guys had not had Popular Mechanics, they never would have tried to escape''.
NRRM, LLC, which does business as CarShield, were fined $10 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that its advertisements and telemarketing was deceptive and misleading, and that many purchasers found that many repairs were not ''covered'' despite making payments of up to $120 per month. The FTC also alleges CarShield's celebrity and consumer endorsers made false statements in its ads. As crazy as it might sound, some of the 133 high-ranking clerics who entered the Sistine Chapel for the conclave that elects the next Pope had watched the Ralph Fiennes movie, handily titled ''Conclave'', for pointers. As the pope-appointed steward of the conclave, Fiennes has to deal with fractious clerics, the emergence of scandalous dossiers targeting papal favorites and the appearance of an unknown candidate from an obscure diocese. Despite the reservations printed on the label, home wine making during Prohibition was completely legal. A loophole in the Volstead Act allowed people to make and consume up to 200 gallons of wine in their home, which comes out to a little more than two and a half standard 750 ml bottles per night, per household, per year. When I opened the package I had my laugh of the day. Nowhere on this website does it give the size of the item. Looking at it online, I thought I could mount it on the dashboard of my motorhome and stick my Rapid Radio in it. Turns out, it is made to handle just the belt-clip on the back of the walkie-talkie.
8th May 1945: Some amazing photos of crowds celebrating VE Day in London. At three o’clock in the afternoon everyone stopped to listen to Churchill’s victory speech he had written the night before: ''the evil-doers now lie prostrate before us'' he said with a flourish and everyone cheered. Mario Puzo, who wrote ''The Godfather,'' has said that the novel's keenly observed depictions came from his meticulous research. But since the movie premiered half a century ago, this prime example of art imitating Mafia life has gone on to work in the other direction, too. Generations of mobsters have looked to ''The Godfather'' for inspiration, validation and as a playbook for how to speak and act and dress, as seen in law enforcement wiretaps and through interviews with some of the players themselves. Biden entered office in January 2021 with a promise to provide a sharp contrast to what some perceived as a chaotic Donald Trump administration. He now risks being remembered more for actions that may have paved the way for Trump's return to the White House rather than for his achievements. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who is older than Joe Biden, has come under scrutiny for spending over $220,000 on private jet travel in the first quarter of 2025 as part of his ''Fighting Oligarchy'' tour, which is aimed at challenging the influence of billionaires and corporate interests, has drawn criticism for the apparent contradiction between its message and what they do themselves. The Democrats have as many, if not more, billionaires supporting them as do the Republicans. Do as I say, not as I do.
Homelessness has hit record levels as the country grapples with a severe housing affordability crisis. This is one of the saddest homeless stories I've ever read, I kept thinking ''there but for the grace of God go you or I''. These are people without hope being driven out of one location after another. Following Germany's surrender, members of Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower's staff kept coming up with increasingly verbose and grandiose statements to inform the world of the development. Eisenhower, exhausted and a no-nonsense person, grew frustrated and wrote a one-sentence announcement himself. ''The mission of this Allied force was fulfilled at 0241, local time, May 7, 1945''. In 2008, the Navy ordered the first new carrier class in forty years. The Ford class was designed to supplement, and eventually replace, the Nimitz carriers starting in 2026. The USS Gerald R. Ford is the first of the new type of carrier. The ships are also designed for extraordinarily long lifespans: while the Nimitz carriers were designed to serve for 40 years, the Navy hopes to get more than 90 years of service out of its new ships by making them easier to update as new technologies become available. The daily consumption of olive oil might be playing a role in the extraordinary longevity of a small homogeneous population on the Italian island of Sardinia, maintaining cardiovascular health and mobility in the elderly.
The sun rose on President Trump's 99th day in office last week to reveal scores of booking photos lining the White House North Lawn's perimeter that the administration claims depict immigrants who have previous convictions or charges such as murder, kidnapping, sexual assault of a child and rape. Have you ever wondered why national credit card issuers run their businesses in South Dakota? More importantly, why credit card companies can ignore your state's usury law, which limits the amount of interest that can be charged on a loan, and charge whatever rate they want? The answer lies in a 1978 Supreme Court ruling. The case not only changed the law, but also became a light-bulb moment for the industry, setting it on a 30-year path that deeply affected state economies and Americans' debt levels. In 1965, an outbreak of five tornadoes tore through the western and northern suburbs of Minneapolis on the May 6, 1965, killing 13 people and injuring hundreds more in what was described as a ''night of terror.'' The most destructive storm in Minneapolis, it left $51 million in damage in its wake, more than $500 million adjusted for inflation. Winds exceeding 200 mph 1,700 people were left homeless. It was devastating, I saw a Volkswagen wrapped around a tree, the front and rear bumpers touching. Last year the C.I.A. released instructions in Mandarin about how people in China could safely use the dark web to contact the agency. The text-only instructional video was viewed 900,000 times. While the Chinese internet is locked down and censored, American officials believe that more sophisticated Chinese officials know how to work around those controls.
Depressed people tend to be great procrastinators. Procrastination means putting off for a later time what should be done now. The ''should'' may come from without, as with the teenager who dawdles over homework, or from within, as the author says, ''with me planting my garden''. When it comes from without, it's easy to see the rebelliousness that procrastination expresses. When it comes from within, it's hard to see immediately what purpose procrastination serves-but it may serve many. A 69 year old Florida man, Doug Hay, risked his own life to rescue a drowning bald eagle that was about to be attacked by an alligator. ''That would be in my head the rest of my life if I couldn't save this bird. I had to do it,'' Hay said. ''Just wanted to get to the eagle and save it, it's our national symbol, It's freedom, it's America.'' Though many might know the lore behind Cinco de Mayo, it is often confused with Mexico's Independence Day. Part of the confusion comes from the names of the two holidays, which might be harder for English speakers to say. Cinco de Mayo is much catchier than the day of Mexico's independence (Diez y seis de Septiembre). Celebrating May 5th is not as popular in Mexico as it is in the United States, but many Americans have no idea what they are celebrating. Do you know? President Trump directed the Bureau of Prisons to work with the Department of Justice, FBI and Homeland Security to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt Alcatraz, shutdown in 1963. The notorious facility will once again house America's most ruthless and violent offenders. The order comes as Trump has repeatedly clashed with liberal judges protecting accused gang members and illegal migrants that are now being sent to a prison in El Salvador.
In an era of fantastic aircraft, the B-58 Hustler was one of the most visually striking warplanes ever to fly. Its delta wing, giant engines, and remarkable performance gave rise to the myth that pilots could literally tear the wings off the bomber if they flew it too fast. That wasn't true, but the B-58 was a difficult plane to fly, and suffered from a high accident rate, high maintenance, and an obsolete mission profile. It remained in service for only a decade, a dead-end in bomber development. A floating city, Venice was founded in 421AD by a group of Celtic people called the Veneti. However, the northeast coast of Italy looked nothing of what it does now and was only marshland and a lagoon in which 124 islands existed. It wasn't until 453 when Attila the Hun invaded Italy, prompting people to flee to the coast where Venice now sits. Over time, the region of Italy continued to be the subject of political and actual warfare, with threats from the Franks, the Turks, and even the Black Death. Sexual predators, crooked financiers, spies and a spattering of murderers: while the Vatican may appear an earthly garden watched over by its beloved saints, it also has its demons. In the 15th Century, Pope Alexander VI, who fathered several children, arranged an orgy to celebrate his daughter's wedding. Today, clerical sexual abuse against minors and nuns is the most serious crime facing the Catholic Church. In a team dominated by men, Gladys Ingle stood alone as the only female member of the 13 Black Cats, an acclaimed aerial stunt team. Her stunts—ranging from plane-to-plane transfers mid-air to wing walking while her aircraft swooped under bridges—left spectators and fellow aviators alike awestruck. Her daring maneuvers earned her world-wide recognition throughout the 1920s and 1930s.
Mosquitoes are some of the most effective hunters on the planet. They can track you down at great distance by sniffing out the air you breathe. Once they find exposed skin, they use their needle-like proboscises to suck your blood. In 90 seconds, they've had their fill of blood. It's only a few microliters, but there are enough nutrients to lay a hundred eggs. Former Democratic vice presidential nominee Minnesota Governor Tim Walz continued a self-described ''listening tour'' across the country at a Harvard Kennedy School forum, ruling out a 2028 presidential bid and revealing why former Vice President Kamala Harris chose him as her running mate. Who would believe a product would make them look 50 years younger? A desperate consumer who wants it to be true, that's who, and advertisers take full advantage. But, the Federal Trade Commission says the generally expected results disclosure cannot be fabricated or exaggerated. The author of this article noticed what some other writers had noticed, that Trump is the first president to actually get the investigations and replacements moving instead of just talking about them. He had teams that were fully ready to undertake this task with all the energy necessary, evident by the speed of his processes. His is truly a shock-and-awe move against big, unaccountable government.
Canada is the second-largest country by land mass in the world. Canada also completes its elections in one day. Canada does not use electronic voting machines. Canada uses paper ballots, voting takes place in one day, and results are released when the polls close. Why are certain politicians so against using paper ballots (you know who they are) and want to push voting by mail allowing ballots to arrive days after the election, or using ballot-harvesting drop boxes? Simple, it's easier for them to cheat. Have you ever wondered how you would look if you were a yellow character like the ones you see on TV? The relationship between Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson was thrust into the national spotlight after the North Carolina Tar Heels football coach had an awkward interview on CBS. Belichick has kept his personal life out of the spotlight for most of his career. Now, the 73-year-old is dating 24-year-old Hudson and what appeared to be a sweet romance has garnered the attention of the NFL and pop culture worlds. If your watch battery dies, you can either replace it yourself or you take it to a professional. Of course, if you have an expensive watch that costs well into the hundreds or thousands of dollars, then you shouldn't try it yourself. Have a professional jeweler who knows what he is doing take care of your Rolex, unless you bought it from a street peddler in Mexico for $30 bucks. But if it's a Timex or similar, why not enjoy learning a new skill?
The Crusade was led by two kings, Louis VII of France and Conrad III of Germany, and involved campaigns in the Iberian peninsula and the Baltic region. However, the Crusade failed to achieve its main goal in the Levant and suffered a humiliating defeat at Damascus. The Crusade also caused tensions between the Byzantine Empire and the western Christians, and increased the confidence of the Muslim forces under Nur al-Din. The Crusade was seen as a disaster by many. A mysterious formation lurking deep in the ocean has been spotted just a few miles off the coast of Southern California. Geographically known as Sycamore Knoll, the natural underwater structure looks like a bump pushing up from the ocean floor, with a flat, table-like top. It has been studied by scientists for years, though recent claims by conspiracy theorists have suggested Sycamore Knoll might be an underwater 'alien base.' Never say never. Are you inspired to become your country’s keeper and recommit yourself to being an active, involved and thoughtful citizen—a Born Again American? Nobody wants the IRS knocking on their door. While audit rates have stayed relatively low for most taxpayers in recent years (less than 1% overall), certain things still wave a big red flag saying ''look at me!'' to the IRS. Knowing these IRS audit triggers doesn't just help you sleep better at night, it can actually keep you off the audit radar altogether.
Now it can all be told. Here are 30 examples, based on reporting that emerged suddenly and conveniently after the disastrous debate with Donald Trump in 2024 had removed all doubt regarding Joe Biden's decline, of powerful Democrats expressing their private concern about the president's age and health. REAL ID is a set of federal standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. The REAL ID Act of 2005 established these standards. REAL ID standards help bolster security because they ensure that the documents you carry are authentic and issued under strict verification guidelines. Only REAL ID-compliant IDs or other accepted forms of identification (like passports) will be permitted for boarding commercial flights, entering certain federal facilities, and more. Museums hold some of humanity's most cherished treasures, so it's not surprising that the most famous museums around the world host millions of visitors each year. Here are the 20 most popular museums in the world. The Department of Education will resume collections on May 5 for federal student loans in default for the first time in five years, impacting some 5 million borrowers. Since March 2020, the department has not collected on default loans. When Congress mandated student and parent borrowers to resume student loan payments in October 2023, the previous administration granted borrowers another year to be protected. This will now change, with repayments to start in May, 2025.
An Alaskan pilot faces forfeiture of his Cessna 206 for allowing passengers to load beer onto a flight routed to a dry village in 2012. On April 18, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled that the forced forfeiture of Kenneth Jouppi's plane did not violate the excessive fine clause in the U.S. Constitution. Fairbanks pilot Kenneth Jouppi's plane was confiscated when State Troopers stopped him from taking off for the dry village of Beaver, a community of less than 100 people, and a search revealed alcohol on board. Democrat leaders are intensifying pressure against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, with Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) now urging an “uprising” in the streets. Wilson made the call during a press conference after touring the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Krome Detention Center, where criminal illegal aliens are held pending deportation. The Army has suspended a Wisconsin training base's first female commander after discovering portraits of President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had been flipped around to face a wall. The Army has posted an undated statement on Fort McCoy's website saying Col. Sheyla Baez Ramirez has been suspended as the base's garrison commander. What is better than taking in sweeping views of untouched mountains, canyons, deserts and forests? Doing it all with a senior discount. For just $20 a year, the National Park Service offers seniors access to national parks across the country. Each park has something unique to offer, from stargazing to world-class fishing. Many of the national parks feature senior-friendly accommodations, like accessible shuttles, paths for those with limited mobility, and guided tours for the hard of hearing.
War designed to fit a theory, as the Bush administration learned, can falter when key assumptions don’t pan out. After months of selling its case, the Administration gave the impression it had devised a Teflon war: quick, easy, relatively bloodless. War boosters predicted that Iraq’s leadership would snap, Iraqi forces would surrender, Iraqi citizens would welcome American soldiers with open arms. Honor your loved one's legacy with a QR medallion. Create a virtual memorial by adding photos, videos and precious memories. Upload a clip of their voice to speak to visitors, who can leave a tribute or share a story. Politicians found to be the most corrupt of all time, here are the top ten. One of the people you won't find here is Richard Nixon. Despite his well known transgressions, Nixon didn't line his own pockets. Defining political corruption as the use of power for personal gain, this list includes only those public servants who used their office for financial profit. A 'flame in the sky,' eerie red glowing objects and swarms of UFOs over military bases are just some of the many sightings that have gravely concerned the US government. There are dozens of unsolved cases going back to the 1960s that occurred over nuclear missile installations, Navy ships and a desert in New Mexico. Now, as the current administration weighs declassifying many of these UFO-related incidents, there could soon be new information about some of the key close encounters.
